Childhood and Adolescence - specific problems
These conditions start at a very early age in a child or start with the onset of teenage. Generally, some of these symptoms are very common and some are quite problematic. Since parents tend to ignore these, they may increase in frequency and intensity. Some symptoms of these conditions may carry on in adulthood also. eg. Adult ADHD.
Some of the problems associated with difficulty in language, spellings or mathematics can be treated with correct intervention.
So, the aim is to get help as early as possible!
If you observe the following symptoms please seek help as these conditions are curable by therapy:
- Hyperactivity in child's behaviour.
- Lack of concentration and leaving the tasks incomplete.
- Excessive restlessness, Overtalking or Noiseness.
- Excessive Fidgety or Wriggling.
- Dis-inhibition in social situations or relationships and recklessness in behaviour.
- If these symptoms are left untreated in childhood, they may cause numerous mental and physical problems in Adulthood.
OR
- If the child behaves aggressively, doesn't socialize or behaves in defiant manner repeatedly.
- Fights or bullies other children, shows cruelty to animals or other human beings, destruction of things/ property, fire setting, stealing, or lying.
- Remains absent from school or runs away from home and shows provocative behaviour.
OR
- If the child remains excessively sad, doesn't mix up with his/her age group kids.
- Shows misery, loss of interest in usual activities.
- Blames self for everything and remains hopeless about everything.
- Can't sleep adequately and doesn't feel hungry.
OR
- Feels fearful while being away from parents or family members.
- Shows reluctance to even go to school for fear of being seperate from parents and family members.
- Insists on sleeping with the person he is attached to or reluctance or refusal to go to sleep without being near or next to parents or attached family member.
- Has nightmares about seperation from parents or family member he is attached to.
- Throws tantrums, crying and misery when told to be away, also, shows physical symptoms of headache, nausea, stomachache, vomiting etc when separated.
OR
- Shows jealousy or rivalry with the brother or sister.
- Displays hostility and tries to harm the sibling in absent of parents or adults.
- Doesn't want to share and has no friendly interaction.
OR
- Eats non-nutritive substances like soil, paint chipping, leaves or dry wood.
OR
- If the child does voluntary body rocking, head rocking, hair plucking, hair twisting, eye poking, head banging or face slapping.
OR
- Stammering, Stuttering, or Cluttering.
